LOCAL. WATER. CONSERVATION.

The fishing industry as it stands now isn't working for the fish, the environment, the clients, the guides, or the general public.  We believe it's time for a bit of change in the industry.  We aren't scared of change. You can be a part of this change.

The way it works now... doesn't.

The retail tourism industry often treats our fish and waters as a limitless resource, while land management agencies with shriveling budgets struggle to effectively and sustainably manage fisheries and the outfitters that guide those waters.

  •  Fly fishing clients get less than an optimal experience and suffer the effects of overfishing on public and private waters
  • Land owners that have provided public commercial outfitter access for decades are frustrated by overfishing and depletion of their natural resources.

As a officially recognized 501 c3 Charity Foundation in Southwest Colorado we recognize the limited resource we have in our waters and strive to improve our local fisheries by working with landowners, clients, guides, news media, and land management agencies to help sustain aquatic habitat and to protect our irreplaceable awesome fisheries.
To adapt a favorite old quote...the best time to help your fisheries and educate fishermen is 20 years ago, The next best time is today.

Causes we CARE about

At Sacred Waters, besides our work restoring river habitat, we have a big spot in our hearts for helping veterans recover from the tribulations of war, as well as fostering a love for fishing and the outdoors in our youth.

The four pillars of our organization guide
how we operate and give back as a nonprofit.

Conservation - We are protecting all waters, which means working with public land management agencies and private landowners alike.  Our protection and maintenance efforts in a small fish habitat will bring prosperity beyond the immediate area. Improvements to fisheries and river habitats, no matter how small and regardless of whether publicly or privately owned, benefit the entire river.

Advocacy - The word 'advocacy' takes its roots from the Latin 'ad vocare' meaning to speak for someone. Nature's beauty speaks to those who visit her, but our rivers and fish can't represent themselves in the political arena. This is where we will help. Years of combined guide experience has taught us a thing or two about how to be an advocate for our rivers and fish. Contrary to what a lot of us have been taught, what's best for our rivers and fisheries is also best for fishermen, landowners, and fishing guides. How does this theory become action?

Rehab - One of our all-time favorite ways to give back is through supporting our United States Veterans! The therapeutic benefits of fishing should be enjoyed by everyone. We offer tailored guide services for these Veterans who need a little assistance to experience fishing our waters. For this reason, we support Archuleta County Vets for Vets of Pagosa Springs, Co, Patriot Anglers of N. Texas & S. Oklahoma, Warriors on the Fly, Veterans Outdoor Therapy Project, and Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing locally & abroad and want to give back to support Veterans that have already given so much.

Education - Education is our passport to the future. Tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today. We are of the mindset that when people, regardless of age, better understand our fisheries that they'll naturally be drawn to learn more about good river stewardship. These educated individuals will take actions to protect and improve what we have been given. We provide public and private educational events such as clinics and seminars in our community and online. The result is a growing group of individuals who take what they have learned and apply it in both their sporting and personal lives. These educational roots take hold and are shared with others who utilize the waters and surrounding lands with a caring and gentle spirit.  We CARE!

Nature calls. Will you answer?

Help us keep fostering healthy relationships with landowners, preserve access, and introduce the incredible world of angling to folks that will benefit from its healing powers.
